ARTIST STATEMENT

Previously based in Boulder, CO, I used sculpture and performance to confront intimate histories, memories, and dreams through a transcultural and intersectional lens. As a Mexican American woman, I was heavily influenced by the sentiments of identity, self-expression, and assimilation found in Chicano art. During this time, I sought to reconcile my understanding of identity and culture while navigating a desire for connection and acceptance. I intended to create work that reflects inner yearnings and outer expressions with humility and honesty.

Now located in Dallas, TX, I continue to meditate upon my ever-evolving ambitions. As I graduate college, seek fulfillment in a career, and pursue domesticity, this unfamiliar environment provides a canvas for self-exploration. Connecting themes of womanhood, maternity, and ancestry to the flourishing biodiversity within the developing urban landscape, I want to expand my artistic practice through the vernacular of urban symbiosis. Through organic forms, cycles, and tender observation, I want to engage with these natural tensions, furthering my understanding of myself as an artist, woman, and bonded life-form.
